It is Liverpool against Manchester United and a manager is on a historically bad run. Not Ruben Amorim, either, who has equalled his longest winning sequence in the Premier League as United head coach (admittedly, that is only one victory). But Arne Slot has suffered three successive defeats for the first time: in his managerial career, not merely in his reign on Merseyside.

The shift in stance is hardly surprising given Chiesa's productivity and fit under Slot. In limited minutes he has been decisively efficient, directly contributing to four goals in just 153 minutes across six appearances. Chiesa's profile playing style, explosive first step, aggressive ball-carrying, and a knack for arriving in scoring zones, dovetails with Slot's emphasis on fast transitions and wide forwards who can both finish and create.

He's been in and out and, like you say, with signing players, it's probably fried his head a little bit and he's not really sure what's what at the minute. Mac Allister is undoubtedly still a fine player, but LFC could do with him getting back to his best as soon as possible as they do seem to be struggling to control games like they did when he was looking more confident last season.
