During a recent vacation on a private island, the author allowed their children to explore freely, resulting in newfound confidence and independence. With only 35 villas and constant protection from the lagoon, the safe environment encouraged kids to embrace their autonomy. They engaged with nature, navigated challenges, and learned to be responsible without parental supervision. This approach to hands-off parenting, reminiscent of the past, proved beneficial, enhancing the children's ability to solve problems and enjoy experiences away from screens and constant oversight.
They hopped on their bikes, provided by the resort during our stay, and hit the paved path around the island.
Because they were on their own out there, they tended to solve their own small problems - like dusting off a scraped knee.
