Winning design for the British Museum's redevelopment announced
Briefly

The British Museum is set to undergo a major redevelopment of its western wing, which currently contains collections from Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Ancient Assyria, and the Middle East. The project, led by Lina Ghotmeh Architecture, promises a vast open space surrounded by smaller display areas, addressing the current outdated gallery designs and inadequate cooling systems. Although work won’t begin for several years as the project awaits funding and consultations, the museum remains committed to remaining open during these developments, with an exhibition showcasing design proposals currently on display until March 2nd.
The redevelopment of the British Museum's western wing aims to modernize dated galleries while increasing space for collections and enhancing visitor comfort.
Paris-based Lina Ghotmeh Architecture’s design, deemed the most 'classical', will be refined as part of a master plan transformation by mid-2026.
