Designed by nendo and Nikken Sekkei, the Japan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka represents a self-sustaining living organism that showcases continuous transformation and reuse. Its circular structure, made from cross-laminated timber, features a semi-transparent facade creating interactivity between the interior and exterior. The pavilion promotes themes of eternal connectivity and environmental consciousness through a biogas plant that uses organic waste to generate power, encouraging visitor participation. The modular design ensures that the pavilion materials can be repurposed for other buildings across Japan after the expo, extending its lifecycle.
