More than 600 reports of damp and mould at council homes since October
Briefly

During a recent council meeting, Cllr Paul McGeary reported that 636 properties had reported issues of damp and mould to Havering Council since October 1, 2024. He noted challenges in tracking these cases due to the introduction of specialized management codes. Many affected buildings were constructed in the 1960s, lacking modern insulation standards, making them vulnerable to condensation. To address this, the council has established a damp and mould 'MOT' system, aiming for timely remediation and support for residents during peak complaint seasons from November to April.
Cllr Paul McGeary announced that Havering Council received 636 reports of damp and mould from properties since October 2024, highlighting concerns about housing conditions.
The implementation of specialist codes enables better tracking of damp and mould cases, alongside a new 'MOT' approach to managing and addressing complaints efficiently.
