Kesterson House / BUNSTON
Briefly

The renovation of a former office into a family home preserved the historical significance of the building while addressing structural challenges such as roof leaks and chimney refurbishments. With a focus on maintaining the original footprint and aesthetics in accordance with Heritage Victoria guidelines, the design integrated modern elements through a glass link that enhances natural light. The project embraces the theme of time, envisioning a home that melds seamlessly with its ivy-covered walls over time, signifying a dialogue between past and future aesthetics.
Our project brief was not to add amenities but rather to convert a former office into a family home, prioritizing historical preservation.
The new glass link was essential for allowing natural light into the central living spaces, creating a connection between the old and the new.
During construction, we became aware of the St Kilda Heritage walking tour, reminding us of the project's historical significance.
We hope that the house will be 'better' with age, 'better with the ivy,' as the new will blend with the old.
