Urban islands in Porto represent a significant housing tradition from the 19th century, originally designed for working-class families. Overcrowding and poor living conditions led to government interventions aiming for social relocation. Although many islands faced demolition, some remain, embodying the city’s narrative. The proposed housing project seeks to revitalize these spaces through modern design while retaining traditional elements, connecting public and private areas effectively. This initiative aims to reflect upon social and architectural identities, creating a balance between contemporary needs and historical essence.
