Koodu, located in Eravipuram, Kerala, is a compact vault home designed for a single mother and her two children. The house employs an experimental asymmetrical groin vault made of exposed brick, drawing inspiration from architect Laurie Baker. The design reconsiders affordable housing with innovative spatial strategies, creating an open-plan layout that integrates living, kitchen, and dining areas. The earthy materials and pastel hues elevate the atmosphere and connect seamlessly to a tropical garden, which contributes to the home’s microclimate. Koodu's development was a pro bono effort supported by the PMAY housing scheme, showcasing inclusive architectural design.
