APA Member Interview: Jacob Browning
Briefly

Jacob Browning is a substitute assistant professor at Baruch College, specializing in the philosophy of mind and AI. He values collaborative work with diverse scholars like Yann LeCun and Zed Adams, particularly enjoying projects that clarify philosophical arguments. Browning believes the real danger of technology lies in the wealth concentration among big tech firms, distorting markets and politics, rather than the social media issues highlighted by others. His guiding personal philosophy is kindness, inspired by his mother's principles of compassion and generosity towards others. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Cat.
The real danger, to my mind, is the obscene wealth of big tech industries and how they've enabled a small group of men to massively distort our markets and politics.
I've been really fortunate to work with folks with diverse experience, such as Yann LeCun (AI), Mark Theunissen (social sciences), and Joe Lemelin (continental), especially enjoying collaborative work with my dissertation advisor, Zed Adams.
The articles I think fondly of are my co-written ones, with strong collaborative experiences that clarify philosophical arguments and engage deeply with relevant literature.
My personal philosophy is 'Be kind', a principle I attempt to live by, instilled in me by my mother, emphasizing compassion and benevolence.
