I Felt Lost When I Walked Away From Dance. Then I Found Yoga.
Briefly

The article reflects on the author's lifelong journey with movement, beginning with early dance experiences and culminating in a transformative encounter with yoga. After stepping away from dance for college, the author initially felt disconnected from their body, finding solace in other forms of exercise. A serendipitous visit to a yoga studio introduced a familiar rhythm of movement and community. The author illustrates how yoga, particularly Jivamukti classes, restored their connection to their body, ultimately redefining what it means to feel at home in one's own physicality.
Movement is our first language. To be a dancer is to know movement as language. To regard the body as an instrument. To know movement as home.
Yoga showed up in my life on a freezing winter evening in New York City. On a whim, I wandered into the Jivamukti studio just off Union Square and into Rima Rabbath's class.
Jivamukti classes were guided by music. That was familiar. So were the anatomical analogies, the corrections, sense of extension, and the predictability of set sequences from start to finish of class.
