If you’re prepared to think critically about GenAI output and to edit it aggressively, it can sometimes save you time and aggravation with your writing tasks.
If a writing project is hanging over your head and making you miserable, GenAI can quickly get you from a blank screen to a full draft; your job then becomes editing rather than creating.
Generating text doesn’t necessarily get at the root of the writer’s block. AI output can suggest a way of addressing an issue, but it can’t (yet) think for you.
To have a better experience with GenAI, plan to have a dialogue with the tool: experiment with refining your prompts, asking it to add content and change.
