It broke my heart that he was isolating himself from me. I realize I handled it all wrong. All my prodding made things worse, and he pushed me away. I felt like he hated me.
I realized how I was dealing with him was maybe making things worse. I wasn't giving him any space - and space was exactly what he needed. I took a step back, but kept a close eye.
