I'm Gen X and not ready to retire. At 51, my career is just now starting.

At 30, I was a single mom of four, with my career on hold. Now at 51, my savings are almost nonexistent, needing to catch up with my generation.

This week was a good one, receiving the green light for article pitches that can bring in $1000, which will help fix my car and bills.

I look like a typical middle-aged Gen X mom, but the reality is I'm a 51-year-old single mom who doesn't fit into my demographic.

I became a mom at 21, while my friends were pursuing careers, and the life that kept me away from writing became the reason I'm finally pursuing it.
