In a recent dilemma featured in 'Dear Prudence', a top-floor resident grapples with conflict arising from her elderly neighbor's trash behavior. The neighbor's pregnant granddaughter contributed to friction through complaints about noise, which escalated after the author's health declined. An incident involving unbagged trash leads to the author feeling disrespected, culminating in a resolution that ends with the author no longer willing to assist with the neighbor's trash. The situation raises questions about compassion versus self-care in neighborly relations, emphasizing the complexity of community dynamics in urban living.
I feel bad for my neighbor and when I next went out I took a large load. None were double bagged and ended up ripping, so trash and dirty diapers ended up across two floors.
The granddaughter has since moved out, and my neighbor has left me several "nice" notes and even a plate of cookies (I returned them). I can't return to playing nice neighbor after being treated as trash.
