"He is a dark horse who unselfconsciously brings naughtiness to the verge of perversion, à la Paul McCarthy, with a sentimentality and a sense of the everyday found in Christian Boltanski," wrote Todd Meyers in 2017 in Artforum.
"Everyone has something that drives them through life," Spoerri would later say. "Being without a native land is the engine of my own."
Spoerri was additionally acclaimed for his Topographie Anécdotée du Hasard, a volume mapping the various objects on his table and limning his memories or associations affiliated with each.
Describing himself as a 'paster of found situations,' Spoerri remained head-scratchingly uncategorizable during the course of his long and productive career.
