Juan Pablo Guanipa, a former governor and close ally of Maria Corina Machado, was reportedly taken around midnight in a residential neighbourhood of Caracas by heavily armed men in civilian clothes who arrived in four vehicles. Guanipa had been released after more than eight months in custody and had told reporters he believed the country had changed and urged focus on building a free, democratic nation. Foro Penal expressed serious concern about his disappearance and confirmed at least 30 people were released on Sunday amid pressure on acting president Delcy Rodriguez and a visit by UN human rights representatives.
