Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya served as director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza and became widely known for video dispatches documenting the humanitarian toll of Israel's military assault. In late December 2024, Israeli forces raided Kamal Adwan Hospital, forcibly evicted staff and patients, and arrested Dr. Abu Safiya. He has been detained without charge, held with virtually no outside contact, and subjected to harsh conditions for months. A documentary titled The Disappearance of Dr. Abu Safiya, produced by Fault Lines on Al Jazeera English, presents his story and includes interviews with director Amel Guettatfi and Dr. Azra Zyada.
