Hanged under the cover of war: letters and videos tell stories of Iran's death row victims
"Despite the killings, Alipour, a 34-year-old law graduate with a passion for mountaineering who had been on death row for three years, recorded in his neat, tight handwriting that he was not intimidated."
"Dictators have come, been overthrown, died, and been killed, and now it is the turn of Khamenei-the-son's dictatorship, Alipour said of the accession of Mojtaba Khamenei to supreme leader after the death of Ali Khamenei in airstrikes by the US and Israel."
"On 31 March, Alipour was taken to the gallows at Ghezel Hesar prison, where he was hanged with another cellmate, Pouya Ghobadi, a 32-year-old electrical engineer."
Babak Alipour, imprisoned in Rajai Shahr prison, wrote about fellow inmates facing execution, including Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani. Despite being on death row for three years, Alipour remained defiant. He recorded a video criticizing the Iranian regime and its future leadership under Mojtaba Khamenei. His family faced arrests while attending a vigil for him. On 31 March, Alipour was executed alongside Pouya Ghobadi, both accused of being part of an armed rebellion linked to the People's Mujahedin of Iran.
