A former disability support worker, who worked for the not-for-profit Woodbine, alleges that she was sent into homes covered in urine and feces. Following her exposure to unsanitary conditions while caring for clients, she developed severe respiratory issues, resulting in complete loss of her voice after six years. Despite the employer's awareness of the hazardous environments, no protection measures were implemented. The woman's health continuously deteriorated, leading to multiple infections and eventually hospitalization.
As a result of her exposure to that environment, her respiratory condition worsened and she was diagnosed with a chest infection and pleurisy - inflammation of the lining of the lungs and chest cavity.
Unfortunately [the clients] weren't able to keep their house clean, it would be filthy... urine, faeces, and mum would have to go there quite a bit.
