Despite advancements in gender equality within the workforce, significant gender disparities persist, particularly in male-dominated fields such as mining and power-line work. Stereotypes and historical legacies continue to deter women from entering these professions. Although strides have been made toward workplace equality over the past decades, physical job requirements often lead to a preference for male candidates. The hope is for a shift in perception regarding women's capabilities in these roles, challenging long-standing gender biases and fostering a more inclusive work environment.
The sad truth is that even in the 21st century, gender-based stereotypes are not just a thing but remain prevalent, and a male-dominated gap in some fields doesn't appear to be going away.
Some fields ignore women altogether, but the hope is that these careers will start to wake up to the new reality of women being as capable, if not more capable, than men.
Some of this is arguably due to some jobs being more physical, which favors men and deters women from applying.
Until this legacy of male-only work from centuries ago disappears, women aren't likely to break down many barriers.
