New York police ID woman and child whose remains were discovered near Gilgo Beach
Briefly

Tanya Denise Jackson and her 2-year-old daughter Tatiana Marie Dykes were identified after nearly thirty years since their remains were found scattered near Gilgo Beach. Jackson, a 26-year-old U.S. army veteran, was last known to live in Brooklyn. Although some circumstances initially linked them to ongoing investigations into serial killings attributed to Rex Heuermann, police are careful to maintain that there is currently no evidence connecting these two cases. DNA evidence and advanced research techniques led to their identification, but the investigation into their deaths remains open.
"Knowing the identities of the mom and the little baby is just a first step to help us get to solving these murders." - Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly.
"Although Tanya and Tatiana have commonly been linked to the Gilgo Beach serial killings...we are not discounting the possibility that their cases are unrelated from that investigation." - Homicide Det. Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick.
