Madeira Park, a new wine-centric restaurant in Atlanta's Poncey-Highland, has opened its doors, led by James Beard Award-winning chef Steven Satterfield. Teaming up with Neal McCarthy and sommelier Tim Willard, the restaurant aims to offer a unique wine experience, focusing on classic wines rather than the natural wine trend. With a selection of wines by the glass and a hidden menu of rare vintages, Madeira Park is part of a growing trend of wine-focused establishments in Atlanta, responding to consumer demand for better wine experiences.
"We are not a natural wine bar. We're trying to do something different," says Willard. "A lot of consumers that want to love wine haven't connected with it because they haven't had that aha moment with a classic wine."
The focus of the bar is obvious: good wine. What sets them apart is Willard's knack for finding hidden gems, Old World classics, and rare vintages.
