Whole Foods founder John Mackey said his Apple Watch helped him quit drinking
Briefly

John Mackey, founder of Whole Foods, shared that he quit drinking in January 2022 after realizing alcohol negatively affected his sleep quality. Tracking his sleep with an Apple Watch, he discovered that drinking alcohol severely disrupted his deep sleep. Despite enjoying occasional drinks, he repeated a personal experiment that confirmed the detrimental sleep impact of alcohol. Since stopping, he has experienced improved sleep and overall well-being, lamenting that he wished he had made the decision decades earlier.
"I wish I'd stopped drinking 30 years ago," Mackey said. "That's 30 years of feeling good that I let go past."
"When you drink, you would have what I call a 'throwaway day.' You can get through the day, but you kind of don't feel good."
