Colleges are increasingly recognizing the importance of student well-being to improve retention rates, as mental health issues significantly impact students' academic performance. A May 2024 survey highlighted that two-thirds of students felt their mental health hindered their learning ability, and nearly half found similar issues with their physical health. However, less than half of students rated campus health services positively. New wellness initiatives are emerging, such as those addressing allergens and promoting stress management, reflecting the growing concern among Gen Z regarding their mental health and the importance of holistic self-care.
Two-thirds of respondents to a May 2024 Student Voice survey said their mental health was affecting their ability to focus, learn and perform academically.
Nearly half of Gen Z said improving mental health is a primary motivator for working out; however, only one-third of them exercise regularly.
