"We're all going to age, and we're all going to die," said Dr. Joshua Septimus, emphasizing that despite social media's focus on anti-aging products, aging is inevitable. He urges individuals to focus on healthy lifestyle choices instead of fads, highlighting the importance of habits that allow for activities one loves, such as prioritizing mobility to enjoy older adulthood.
"It's not just adding years to your life, but adding life to your years," said Dr. Aileen Pangilinan, underlining that quality of life should be a priority in healthy aging. She suggests avoiding common pitfalls and emphasizes the role of exercise in maintaining health, recommending a target of 150 minutes of aerobic exercise weekly to enhance longevity and well-being.
"In geriatrics ... there's nothing that I prescribe more commonly than exercise," stated Dr. Pangilinan, pointing out the significant impact exercise has on older adults' health. She notes that individuals have to carve out time for physical activity amidst their busy lives and emphasizes the gradual approach of increasing exercise over time rather than overwhelming oneself from the start.
