Venus Williams backs the walking app WeWard
Briefly

WeWard, an app incentivizing walking by offering rewards, has enlisted tennis star Venus Williams as both an investor and ambassador. Users earn points called Wards for their steps, which can be exchanged for gift cards, donations, or cash. The app also features a virtual element with collectible cards and competitions. Approximately 6.5 million of these virtual trading cards, called WeCards, are collected daily, fostering a sense of community and competition. To date, WeWard has distributed $20 million in rewards and generated $1 million for charity, with exclusive challenges linked to Williams to boost engagement.
"We've decided to do something very simple," says cofounder and CEO Yves Benchimol. "We just give cash to people to walk."
