Gabriela Febres, originally from South Florida, noticed a growing Venezuelan community in D.C. after her college days. In 2011, she and her friend Ali Arellano started a business selling traditional Venezuelan cheese and dishes from their home. This venture grew into Antojitos de tu País, which focuses on niche Venezuelan ingredients and meals. Later, they launched Arepa Zone as a food truck in 2014, which has expanded into multiple locations across D.C. Antojitos serves a loyal customer base that appreciates authentic Venezuelan cuisine, despite its less conventional location.
"I remember if I rode the Metro and heard someone speaking with a Venezuelan accent, I would be like, 'Oh my God, I need to talk to this person!'"
"Next came Arepa Zone, which was born as a food truck in 2014 and now does a brisk business at locations across DC: La Cosecha and Western Market food halls."
