The Chinese Room has re-established its independence from the Sumo Group, focusing on the development of new franchises. Despite this positive move, the studio announced layoffs affecting an undisclosed number of employees, citing the need for redundancy following the divestment. Currently, the studio has 55 developers. The company aims to partner with other developers while continuing to create original intellectual properties. They are also working on a long-delayed title, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, and have two other unannounced projects in development.
Following the divestment process, a number of roles were regrettably made redundant. The specifics are confidential, but the studio is currently 55 developers.
This management buyout allows us to scratch the creative itch of continuing to work on new, original intellectual property but also to partner with other studios on other projects when they fit in with our vision.
