Ron Perlman Reveals The Shocking Compensation He Got For Fallout's Most Iconic Line
"They invited me to do the very first Fallout and gave me $40 and a sandwich,"
"'A year and a half later, I get a call, 'Hey, you remember Fallout?' No. 'Well, there's a second one.' I go, 'Why?' 'Because the first one went through the f**king roof,'"
"I go, 'Really? Cool.' Do the second one, then the third, fourth, and now it's a whole brand."
"No. I did a couple of lines, got my $40 and my sandwich, and went home,"
Ron Perlman was paid $40 and given a sandwich for recording the iconic line "War. War never changes." for the 1997 Interplay release of Fallout. Perlman did only a few lines, did not play the games, and did not spend time with the development teams. Fallout grew into a major franchise with sequels from Black Isle and later Bethesda, which acquired the rights in 2007 and released Fallout 3 (2008), Fallout 4 (2015), and Fallout 76 (2018). Fallout: New Vegas was developed by Obsidian. Fallout 5 and remakes of Fallout 3 and New Vegas are in development. A Prime Video Fallout TV series is currently airing with a confirmed third season.
