Path Of Exile 2 Dev Explains First Game's Missing Update After Fan Freakout: 'I'm Really Sorry For How This Went Down'
Briefly

Grinding Gear Games acknowledges in a recent update that balancing the development of Path of Exile (PoE) 1 and its sequel, PoE 2, has become increasingly difficult. Initially, the team aimed to release the 3.26 update for PoE 1 shortly after launching PoE 2 in Early Access. However, challenges from the sequel’s development, including time constraints and unforeseen bugs, have delayed any updates for the original game. This has sparked frustration within the player community, with many fearing the original game has been neglected. The developers remain committed to delivering expansions for the first game.
When we launched PoE 2 we promised we could continue to release PoE 1 expansions, and we do intend to keep that promise but it's certainly been a lot harder to deliver on than what we expected.
The biggest roadblock was the amount of work the sequel's end game needed going into the holiday season and beyond, and the desire to fix what was broken before going back to a game that was already working.
How could I justify taking some of the most experienced developers we have off PoE 2 when it's on fire?
...we needed to stop "fooling ourselves" that PoE 1's update would come out in the hoped timeframe.
