Insomniac Boss Says Resistance 4 Was The One That Got Away
Briefly

The Resistance game series holds a niche but passionate following despite never being a top franchise for Sony. Ted Price, founder of Insomniac Games, disclosed that although the studio envisioned a Resistance 4, Sony rejected the pitch citing market timing and concerns about the franchise overlapping with The Last of Us. He emphasized that the Resistance series has a rich alternate history that could lead to new stories. Fans continue to hope for a revival now that the IP is owned by Sony, even as Insomniac is busy with other projects.
"We did pitch that one and it was a wonderful concept, and it just, in terms of timing and market opportunity, didn't work out," said Ted Price.
"Resistance has set up a really cool alternate history base where anything can happen with the Chimera and where they go and what their origins are," Price explained.
Sony was worried about overloading its portfolio with post-apocalyptic games, and declined to greenlight Resistance 4 because "it sounded too similar to The Last of Us."
