The evolution of the Sonic the Hedgehog film series has led to a shift in how human characters are integrated into the narrative. While there has been criticism regarding the screen time of human characters like James Marsden's Tom, recent films have managed to find a balance between anthropomorphic heroes and their human counterparts. Tails actor Colleen O'Shaughnessey acknowledges the potential for future films to focus solely on Sonic and his friends, but praises the balanced approach taken in the latest installment, which grounds the story in a relatable context.
