Yoshida emphasized the inherent risk in entering the live-service market, noting, “The chance of finding success in the highly competitive live-service market would be small.” He acknowledged Sony's supportive approach by providing additional resources to explore this avenue, while also highlighting the unpredictable nature of success in the industry.
He stated, "You can't plan a success in this industry. That's the most fun part of this business. I hope that this strategy will work in the end,” underlining the uncertain yet exciting challenges of developing live-service games.
Reflecting on the transition in leadership, he remarked, “I would’ve tried to resist the push into live-service,” playfully suggesting that reluctance towards this shift might be part of why he left his position.
Yoshida noted that despite the company halving the number of live-service projects, the success of Helldivers 2 with over 12 million copies sold demonstrates potential for successful titles in this genre.
