A fire broke out early Monday at an elderly man's home in Island Park, Long Island, with rescuers facing challenges due to the man's hoarding tendencies. Despite the efforts of 120 firefighters from multiple towns, it appears he did not escape the blaze, and officials are methodically searching the charred debris in hopes of recovering him. The man's wife was absent during the fire, receiving medical care. Neighbors noted he was known for caring for cats, although none have been found so far.
The missing man's house had 'a lot of extra stuff' rescue workers had to maneuver around, offering extra challenges in addition to heavy rains and winds.
Nassau County Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro stated his 'primary goal' is to locate and recover the missing occupant for his family.
