Women's Centre in Rufisque / Hollmen Reuter Sandman Architects
Briefly

The architects focused on bringing a women's center to life in Senegal by listening to the needs of local women's groups and effectively fundraising to realize the vision.
Involving civic organizations early on was crucial to ensure that the women’s center was not politicized or repurposed for other community uses, maintaining its focus.
To create a functional and culturally relevant space, the design team studied local architecture, aiming to reflect the traditional courtyard-centered style of Rufisque homes.
Throughout the process, the architects had to balance the funding limitations with the expectations of the women, prioritizing the construction of the center over specific design details.
