A couple running a modeling and hairstylist business in Tokyo and Hiroshima has opened a hair salon in the city. Living apart limits their time together, inspiring them to project their unique partnership into the store's design. This salon, located on the fifth floor, features a clever layout with four cutting spaces and a special 'yuqi table' reception area. The use of materials such as acrylic in the cloakroom reflects the couple's intention to create a light, transparent atmosphere. The design employs a timber frame that signifies their shared life and work despite the geographic separation.
We thought about whether it would be possible to create a space that would instantly convey to visitors the world view that the two of them have woven together.
The cloakroom is made of acrylic to make its presence transparent and light, as the small space is filled with voluminous objects such as chairs and counters.
An H-shaped timber frame made of wood, resembling an H-shaped steel frame, was devised for the skeleton of the restored building frame.
I hope that the electric current circulates through the frame like blood so that the two people, who live in different places and have different jobs, can work here.
