Expo 2025 Osaka Panasonic Group Pavilion / Yuko Nagayama & Associates
Briefly

The Panasonic Group Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, titled The Land of NOMO, is designed for children with an organic and fluid architectural form. Inspired by the nature of childhood, its design flows freely away from rigid geometries. Initial sketches resembled children's drawings, symbolizing growth and change. The structure features 1,404 three-dimensional, bent steel pipe motifs stacked in arches, creating a dynamic facade. Upcycled materials from Panasonic's factories enhance sustainability, while the skin-like, color-shifting organza membrane responds to the wind, adding vitality to the pavilion's visual expression.
The Panasonic Group Pavilion, The Land of NOMO, embodies an organic architectural design reflecting the fluid and evolving nature of childhood, distancing itself from rigid geometric forms.
Initial sketches of the pavilion evoke a child's drawing, symbolizing the unfixed potential of children, which inspired its organic and cell-like architectural form.
Composed of small cell-like units derived from 1,404 three-dimensionally bent steel pipe motifs, the pavilion's arches create a dynamic facade adaptable to environmental forces.
Each butterfly motif is covered with a sputter-coated organza membrane, giving the pavilion a constantly moving skin-like surface that changes color with light, reflecting its environment.
