President Donald Trump said he will announce his choice for Federal Reserve chair on Friday morning. The search was led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and narrowed to four finalists: Kevin Warsh, Christopher Waller, Rick Rieder, and Kevin Hassett. Trump has repeatedly criticized Fed Chair Jerome Powell for not cutting benchmark interest rates more aggressively to spur growth. Powell has favored caution given elevated inflation and the effects of tariffs. Trump hinted the pick could be someone considered in previous searches, fueling speculation about Kevin Warsh. Tensions between the White House and the Fed have been escalating.
