Effective July 1, remote work for most Missouri state employees has formally ended, following over four years of allowances during the COVID-19 pandemic. Concerns about personnel quitting due to the changes have arisen. Difficulties with office space and parking have been reported, particularly at the Missouri Department of Social Services. The governor's administration aims to enhance customer service and collaboration through in-person interactions, believing that returning to the office will boost innovation and efficiency across the state workforce.
"There have been some challenges related to space and parking, and the department is actively working to address them by taking steps to mitigate the impact on team members and operations," said DSS spokeswoman Baylee Watts.
"As we consistently work towards achieving innovation and efficiency, we are confident that reintroducing in-person interactions will leverage our success and provide mutual benefits for both individual team members and the agency," a February memo noted.
