Santa Clara County immigrants are self-deporting - San Jose Spotlight
Briefly

In Santa Clara County, immigrants are choosing to self-deport, driven by fear related to the current political climate. Immigration attorney Richard Hobbs has noted a lack of safety causing individuals to avoid daily necessities. Community organizer Tatiana Villaseñor-Carrillo observed that this trend could significantly impact the local economy, including disruptions in food supply, school attendance, and service industries. The messaging from the White House, including a campaign warning about fines for undocumented individuals, is contributing to this phenomenon of self-deportation.
"They don't want to live in fear," Hobbs told San José Spotlight. "People ask, 'Am I safe?' People are not going to the store to get the food they need."
"(The impact) is going to be with your food sources, basic services," Villaseñor-Carrillo told San José Spotlight. "We probably will see more school closures because people are going to be scared to send their kids to school. Venues aren't filling up the way that they were six months ago. It's impacting all these industries."
