Recent Census Bureau data indicates that most US metropolitan areas experienced population growth between July 1, 2023 and July 1, 2024, with Florida cities showing particularly significant increases. Positive net domestic migration was a primary factor for growth in many of the 15 fastest-growing metro areas, which included Florida locations and Myrtle Beach. Furthermore, immigration has emerged as a significant source of new residents. While some areas faced minor declines, the overall trend nationwide was one of population increase, with around two-thirds of counties reporting growth during this period.
Until recent times, population growth in many metro areas mainly relied on births and local migration. Now, rising international migration is playing a pivotal role in shaping demographics.
Kristie Wilder highlighted that as net domestic outmigration affects several areas, the increase in international migration is becoming crucial for maintaining growth in several cities.
