Testing rules out beef patties as the source of E. coli outbreak, McDonald's says
Briefly

Testing has confirmed that beef patties are not the source of the E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders. Instead, the likely culprit appears to be slivered onions from a single supplier. McDonald's will resume selling Quarter Pounders next week, but without slivered onions, in light of the ongoing investigation.
The FDA has indicated that uncooked slivered onions used in the burgers likely caused the outbreak, which has affected at least 75 individuals across 13 states, with 22 hospitalizations and one fatality in Colorado.
Taylor Farms, the supplier of the contaminated onions, has initiated a recall of yellow onions distributed to its clients from a Colorado facility. The company is collaborating with the CDC and FDA to ensure food safety.
Infections associated with E. coli 0157:H7 can result in severe health consequences, including kidney disease complications, underscoring the importance of tracing foodborne illnesses and preventing future outbreaks.
