Suspect arrested, charged in 2021 Newark shooting
"The shooting happened the evening of May 25, 2021 outside a residence in the 37000 block of Saint Matthew Drive, where Franklin was living at the time, court documents say. Officers responding to a call of gunfire located evidence of a shooting, including damage to several vehicles and at least one residence. But no victims were found at the scene."
"About 30 minutes after the shooting, Fremont police responded to a vehicle collision and found the male driver and sole occupant of a Honda Civic had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital, underwent emergency surgery, and has since recovered, police said in a news release. Newark detectives took over the investigation and determined that the injured man had been involved in an altercation with another person, later identified as Franklin."
"According to court documents, Franklin allegedly began shooting at the other man as he was running away. The other man took cover behind a vehicle and returned fire before driving away in the Honda with Franklin firing more shots at him, the documents say. Franklin fled before officers arrived. The incident was captured on video surveillance, according to court documents. An arrest warrant for Franklin was obtained shortly after the incident, but detectives later learned he had fled the state following the shooting."
