A resident in Oakland faces charges for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl he met on a teen-focused social media app. Police located the girl, who had been reported missing, in the suspect's bedroom. When approached by officers, the suspect admitted to knowing her but reacted with panic. He has since been charged with five felonies and was released on bail with restrictions against using social media or being near children. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 28, and he has not yet entered a plea.
According to court records, Haile allegedly answered the door, openly admitted to knowing the girl, and told the officer that she was inside.
Police say the girl told them she met Haile on a social media app geared toward teens, which turned out to be Purp.
