Mail service is suspended, and trading floors are silent, in honor of Jimmy Carter
Briefly

President Joe Biden declared January 9 a national day of mourning for former President Jimmy Carter, urging citizens to honor him in places of worship.
In a rare move, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed for respect towards the deceased president, a tradition last observed for George H.W. Bush.
The U.S. Postal Service will suspend mail service and close offices, but limited package deliveries will continue to avoid disruption in operations.
Many government agencies will be closed as per an executive order, although essential staff for national security and public needs will remain on duty.
