Hundreds mourn Catholic priest and Indigenous peace activist killed in southern Mexico
Briefly

Hundreds gathered in San Andres Larrainzar to mourn the death of Marcelo Perez, a well-known peace activist targeted by drug cartels due to his work for Indigenous and farm labor rights.
"For years, we insisted that the Mexican government should address the threats and aggressions against him, but they never implemented measures to guarantee his life, security and well-being," said The Fray Bartolome de las Casas human rights center.
Father Marcelo Perez was the subject of constant threats and aggressions on the part of organized crime groups, within the context of escalating violence in Chiapas.
President Claudia Sheinbaum mentioned that 'investigations are being carried out' concerning the murder of Perez, emphasizing the challenges of safety in violence-stricken areas.
