Elwood Edwards, the voice behind AOL's iconic phrase 'You've got mail!', passed away at the age of 74. His cheerful voice made email more inviting for millions.
The opportunity to voice the AOL alerts came by chance when Edwards' wife was working at the company. He recorded the greetings in his living room for just $200.
AOL described Edwards's voice as that which 'made AOL feel a little friendlier' at a time when the internet was a daunting new experience for many.
Despite his retirement in 2016, Edwards's voice remained notable in films and sitcoms. He had a chance to share his story on The Tonight Show in 2015.
