Australia, a biodiversity hotspot, recognizes 750 new species
Briefly

"Although 750 new species recognized sounds like a lot, it’s just scratching the surface; 70% of Australia’s native species are yet to be described," says Ritchie.
"The western laughing tree frog is the 248th frog species identified in Australia, with a call reminiscent of laughter rather than a traditional croak," Ritchie explains.
"Citizen scientists played a pivotal role in uncovering new species, which are vital for understanding biodiversity and the conservation of ecosystems," highlights Ritchie.
"Taxonomy isn’t merely about naming species; it’s crucial for conservation efforts, as understanding species leads to better protection strategies for our environment," Ritchie emphasizes.
