Apple just made your app obsolete? You've been 'Sherlocked.'
Briefly

As part of its new operating system iOS 18, Apple will offer its own recording and transcription service seamlessly integrated into phone calls on the iPhone. The Apple service will be able to access back-end code that TapeACall, as a third-party app, cannot.
Apple's new recording feature is free, which poses a serious threat to TapeACall, which charges $79.99 annually. Former Apple executive Philip Shoemaker noted, 'If I was TapeACall, I'd be saying game over.'
Apple unveiled new services at its worldwide developers conference, similar to existing apps like Grammarly, 1Password, Otter, Newji, and Alltrails. Shoemaker mentioned that during his time at Apple, he received complaints from app developers whose services were copied by Apple.
The practice of Apple copying features or services of existing apps, known as 'Sherlocking', has been a long-standing issue. This term originated in the 1990s when Apple introduced a desktop search tool called Sherlock, similar to another program called Watson.
