Momodou Taal, a Cornell University doctoral student, left the US after his student visa was revoked by the Trump administration following disruptive anti-Israel protests. Taal expressed a lack of faith in the judicial process and a fear of detention by immigration officials, which prompted him to depart. He attempted legal action to contest his deportation on grounds of free speech, but faced challenges. Taal, claiming to leave on his own terms, has voiced concerns about the treatment of himself and others in similar situations.
I decided to sue the Trump administration with the hope that it would offer reprieve for myself and other similarly situated persons. But Trump did not want me to have my day in court and sent ICE agents to my home and revoked my visa.
Weighing up these options, I took the decision to leave on my own terms.
